Stand Alone

Hey, Just recorded this song with a friend (Cminor) the other day. He's doing the vocals and I (Nyk) have done the background score as well as the backing vocals. This song is all about a guy who's trying to sustain in this world without his love. The lyrics go as follows, please dont forget to vote this work of a 18 year old. :P

Stand Alone

A lost lie, A lost face,
Once we lived, in disgrace.
Not another chance, Not another day,
Everything was meant to be, your way.

I'm standing alone, up at this height,
I still regret those f*****' fights,
I'm not letting go, I still dream on,
I'm standing alone, so still,
but still so strong.

Here I live, to see another smile,
I'm living this life, this life of denial,
I'm drowning in sorrow, my regrets soaked in pain,
I'm waiting for my life, to turn to another lane.

I'm standing alone, up at this height,
I still regret those f*****' fights,
I'm not letting go, I still dream on,
I'm standing alone, so still,
but still so strong.

I like doing nothing

A new song of mine - hope you like.

I'd love to know what you think, please.

The lyrics are as follow:

In fact, no one has time anymore,
Why should we hide it - we all need to try and catch our life
But how about less noise around us?
And fewer phone calls, fewer meetings, fewer places....?

Chorus: La la la la la I like doing nothing,
La la la la la absolutely nothing
La la la la la I like wasting my time
La la la la la completely

HOPE YOU CAN INDENTIFY

Rushed

clay wrote this awhile back and we've been play'n it ever since. it's a bit short, and i'd like to add a bridge, perhaps with a key change. There is also a drum track that needs added in, but we've not really had the chance to do that yet, so we settle with just the djembe. any comments, ideas, or anything thing else like that will be taken to heart.
love and light

Carsten and I came up with this tune - some of u have heard a part of it before, but please please please tell us what you think.

Personally, I really like this one. Carsten was practising playing the piano and came up with those chords, and I added the melody and the words. of course, it isn't finished yet, it's just an outline.

I do hope you will share yr opinions and suggestions.

This is first composition of my band forgotten notes; it was composed 4 years ago by me, Omar El Abd (guitars) and Nour Bahgat (Keyboards). The song is a fusion between neo classical and oriental music (as i'm Egyptian, and yes I have a camel and a pyramid:))

Fruityloops randomness

"Dave why on earth are you doing something in fruityloops? Don't you play guitar?"

Yeah that discussion about the FL plugins got me thinking... it's been about 5 years since I really worked with fruityloops 3 with the DJ's at college, since then I've just been using it for drum loops... but I thought it would be fun to have a play around!

This is only one min long but I thought it would be fun to make a short, simple track and master it fat!

Things I did:

Realised that I now suck at FL :-(
Used the pluck and Sytrus generators. They effing rule.
Used delay/reverb and EQ to make interesting drums sounds, and worked on different rhythms together.
Used EQ and panning to differentiate the different bits in the mix.
Used mastering to widen, fatten and enhance the sound, especially the low freqs.

Things I learned:

As above, I suck at Fruityloops.

The Fruityloops bundled compressor *IS* rubbish. An attack time below 5ms causes distortion, and it doesn't work properly because peaks still manage to get through the compressor.

The Fruityloops bundled reverb is rubbish.

So if you use fruityloops - get some VSTs in there!

Peace.

Ode To Big Jim

"Big Jim" ( Jim Hood ) was a good friend and an exceptional guitarist with a southern - rock style band in Upstate N.Y., my hometown of Watertown. He was known and loved by all, was a great musician, and a great human being. He was killed on the way home from a gig by a drunk driver who ran a stop sign. This song just reminded me of his style and prompted me to name the tune as such. A critique of one of my other songs stated that I might be better off writing instrumentals. That will never happen because I love to sing...bad or good. However, I took it to heart this one time and I'm glad I did. This one's for you "Big Jim". R.I.P.
